Blake Purnell is a redshirt sophomore and a backup player for the Florida Gators baseball team. A graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, he’s now making a splash in college baseball with his fiery pitching. Blake was selected as Florida’s Honorable Mention for the 2020 Perfect Game Preseason All-Region Team.

Growing up, he developed a deep affinity for the Houston Astros due to numerous family members living in the area. However, when asked about his current favorite team, Purnell was receptive and explained that he has no particular preference for any particular team.
Blake Purnell Career
As a junior and senior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, he knocked out 32 batters and had an under-3 ERA in 30.1 innings. Blake did not appear in a game as a freshman in 2021. In 2022, he received Freshman All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball. four saves and a 2.86 ERA over 50 1/3 innings. He limited the opponents and scored. a batting average of 258, which allows only two homers with 222 batters (0.4 HR/9).
In his collegiate debut against Liberty, he threw 1 2/3 no-hit innings to relief with two strikeouts, and in his first 11 career appearances totaling 19 1/3 innings, he did not allow an earned run. He got his first career win over Georgia State after going three innings without a score on four hits and one strikeout. He won that with three and third shutout innings to relief and four strikeouts against No. 21 Miami.
Blake Purnell threw two-thirds of an inning in relief against Alabama to earn his first save of his career. He threw two and three no-hit innings in relief against No. 5 Florida State, fanning out four and securing the save. Blake functioned in all four of Florida’s games, going 1-0 with a save and a 1.29 ERA over seven innings, allowing just five hits with no walks allowed. He earned the save by limiting No. 2 Arkansas to a 3 1/3 frame run.
On April 11, he was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. He faced No. 20 Florida State on May 17 and went 1 2/3 innings without conceding a score. From May 10 against Bethune-Cookman to May 27 against Arkansas, Blake threw eight straight innings without a goal.
