Cade Denton is a junior who plays as a pitcher for the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles baseball team in the NCAA. Cade has played an important role in taking his team from the playoffs to the Men’s College World Series. Although ORU was an underdog team, they showed the best possible team performance in the past few seasons.
Cade’s career career includes the 2022 NCBWA Third Team All-American, 2022 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team, and 2022 All-Summit League Second Team. Cade was also named the best stopper of the 2023 season and will play a big role if ORU looks to clinch the national title.
Early life
Cade was born on December 28, 2001, in Rowlett, Texas to Collins and Rachel Denton. Cade grew up in his hometown with his older brother Dustin. In high school, he fought for both Rowlett and Dallas Christian. In the end, he finished his studies in the top ten percent of his class.
At the Perfect Game WWBA National Championship in Atlanta, Georgia, his summer ball team placed second. He is currently attending ORU and studying mechanical engineering. His decision to attend ORU was based on the university’s “great baseball and great academics.”
Cade Denton career
He pitched for 27.2 innings in 16 bullpen appearances for ORU and picked up his first collegiate win on April 1 against Western Illinois. On March 26, against North Dakota State, he came out of the bullpen and threw 5.2 innings without a goal, beating eight batters, the highest season record, and made his first collegiate-level save on May 9.
He made his collegiate debut on February 24 against Missouri State and went 2.2 innings, conceding one walk and two hits while catching three strikeouts. This was the first of four consecutive appearances in which he didn’t concede a run.
He played 24 bullpen games for the Golden Eagles, batting 43.2 innings, and had a .41 ERA and a .78 WHIP. Cade finished the year with a 4-0 record, six saves (leading), and 55 strikeouts (season-high 7 vs. South Dakota State in extra innings). He threw 18.2 innings without conceding a run, allowing only two earned runs and keeping his opponents at a .155 batting average.
The Golden Eagles won their 20th Summit League title and had their 29th NCAA regional trip, thanks in large part to Denton, who had three perfect innings against No. 18 TCU at College Station Regional and just one undeserved run over himself allowed last 32.2 innings on the mound.
