Grant Wahl was an American soccer analyst, author, US sports journalist for CBS Sports. He also publishes a twice-weekly podcast featuring news talks and interviews (audio and written) with the sport’s most prominent figures and writes Columns. The media world mourns his death as Grant died in Qatar while covering the Argentina v Netherlands match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Early life
Grant Wahl was born on December 2, 1974, making him 49 years old in 2022. He grew up with a brother, Eric Wahl, in Mission, Kansas, USA. Wahl went to Shawnee Mission East High School for further education. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Princeton University in 1996.

In 1996 he began his career as an intern at the Miami Herald. He then joined Sports Illustrated in November 1996 and began working on college basketball and football coverage. He was also honored and received four Magazine Story of the Year Awards presented by the US Basketball Writers Association. In October 2000, he experienced promoted from a junior position to a senior writer position. On April 10, 2020, he received the termination notice from Sports Illustrated.
Grant published his first book, The Beckham Experiment, in 2009. The book focused on David Beckham’s key moves to LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer and his subsequent steps to make an impact on the league. With this setup, he soon became a New York Times bestseller.
Rise to Fame
In February 2011, he announced a possible candidacy for the post of FIFA President in the upcoming elections to unseat incumbent Sepp Blatter. However, he withdrew before the official deadline and after the failure of confirmation from the Football Association. In October 2009, while covering the fourth round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying, his phone and wallet were stolen at gunpoint in broad daylight in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Grant Wahl participated in the network’s coverage of the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament in October 2012.
In October 2012 he joined FOX Sports as a correspondent. He also covers football news for SI.com magazine. In 2013, SI launched its football division called “Planet Fútbol” with Wahl at the top. Wahl wrote his second book, Masters of Modern Soccer in 2018. In 2019 he left FOX Sports. He then joined CBS Sports as an analyst on October 5, 2021. He works as an editorial consultant for football documentaries aired on Paramount+ and for CONCACAF football match coverage.

Grant Wahl married Celine Gounder in 2001. His wife, Celine Gounder, is an American physician at Bellevue Hospital Center, and she is also a medical journalist specializing in infectious diseases and global health. Grant Wahl cause of death
Grant Wahl is said to have died on December 10, 2022, while covering the 2022 FIFA World Cup match between Argentina and the Netherlands. In November, he was arrested for wearing a T-shirt and speaking out for the rights of the LGBTQ community. According to the Muslim nation, gays and lesbians are criminalized in Qatar so he couldn’t take part in the World Cup. After that he visited a clinic in Qatar and said –
“My body finally collapsed on me. Three weeks of little sleep, lots of stress and lots of work can do that to you. I probably have bronchitis… Just a few hours later I’m feeling a little better. But still: No bueno.”
It was clear from Wahl’s words that his health was not good and he was significantly under medication, stress, and unhealthy circumstances. He was jailed for his health issues and later found dead, revealed by his brother.
