Early life
NLE Choppa, formerly known as YNR Choppa, was born Bryson Lashun Potts on November 1, 2002, in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. He is the son of Angela Potts, who is Jamaican, and his father is Nigerian. He never revealed the names of his father and siblings. As a student, NLE attended Cordova High School, where he graduated. After his high school education, he never mentioned the university he attended or revealed the name of his college. He once mentioned that he was an athletic high school student.
NLE Choppa career
NLE made his music debut in February 2018, after which he was featured in No Chorus Pt. 3″, a Cypher-style song released in December of the same year. Already becoming popular, he then released his single “Shotta Flow,” which received 10 million views on YouTube in just a month of its release. A few days after its release, Pitchfork highlighted it as song of the day. In May 2019, the song debuted on the Billboard 100 chart at number 96 and later peaked at number 36.
In February, he released the song’s sequel, naming it “Shotta Flow 2,” which received 20 million views within 2 months of its release. Billboard’s Carl Lamarre also said that his recent dominance has silenced all critics. He received many offers from various companies and agencies to join them, but NLE declined to sign the contract as he wanted to become an independent singer. Later in March, he released his new single called “Capo” and was also featured on Birdman and Juvenile’s song “Dreams”. In April 2019, he released a new single called “Birdboy,” produced by SGULL.
Widespread Fame
To pay tribute to his favorite childhood singer, Lil Wayne, he released a new single titled “Blocc Is Hott” in May. On September 13, 2019, he released a song called “Camelot,” which peaked at number 37 in the US and became his second hit after Shotta Flow. NLE released the fifth sequel to Shotta Flow and released a single, “Narrow Road,” featuring Lil Wayne on July 30, 2020, whose music video was released on October 23 and received 22 million views. His new project, From Dark to Light, which he announced on October 15th, was released on November 1st, his birthday.
In March 2021, he was arrested on burglary, drug, and weapons charges, for which he stated all allegations were fabricated and were only created to defame him. He then released a freestyle called “First Day Out” to the viral beat of Spotem Gottem’s Beat Box. In August 2020, NLE announced that it would be releasing Shotta Flow 6 with Lil Wayne and also stated that it would be doing Walk Em Down 2 with Lil Durk.
controversy
In the most recent controversy, we were able to discover that Choppa and his crew members were involved in a brawl on Venice Beach. The video was captured by social media influencer Pooja Bawa, who was there. The video clearly shows NLE and its crew member arguing with two men on electric bikes when one of the men got up and took off his backpack, apparently prompting NLE’s crew to attack him. In response, Choppa tweeted that getting involved in such fights was no big deal for him. And that fight was about the fan asking for pics, and he declined because that’s where he was enjoying himself, and as a result, he was called creepy and a bitch.
