Rhett Lowder is a junior baseball player representing the Wake Forest Demon Deacons at the 2023 MCWS. No. 1 seeded Wake Forest certainly surprised everyone this season as they made their way to the College World Series, and Rhett played a key part in that.

Early life
Rhett is from Albemarle, North Carolina, and was born on March 8, 2002. He was the son of Anthony and Annette Lowder. Joseph, his cousin, is a baseball player for Appalachian State. After graduating high school, he joined the Dream on 3 Foundation’s Jr. Dream Team and served as President of the North Stanly Division of the National Art Honor Society.
He was twice named Pitcher of the Year at the high school and conference levels, earning him #491 on the Perfect Game national recruit rankings and #12 on the North Carolina prospect rankings. In his senior year, cut short by injury, he went 2-0 with 27 strikeouts, 1 walk, and no earned runs allowed in 13.2 innings.

As a junior, Rhett was 9-0 with a .61 ERA, throwing 115 strikeouts on just seven walks in 68.1 innings and throwing two no-hitters. As a sophomore, he had a 9-2 record, 1.03 ERA, 96 strikeouts, and 7 walks in 61 innings.
In four starts for the Strasburg Express of the Valley Baseball League, he hit 27 strikeouts and conceded just five earned runs over 19.0 innings for a 2-0 record. In his freshman year, he made 14 appearances and started 12 times, all at weekends.
Rhett took a 4-2 lead, enough for a draw and his team’s most wins. He had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.55, which was the second-best among freshmen in Deac history, and he knocked out 78 batters. In his debut collegiate appearance, he completed a bullpen performance against Northeastern, knocking out the team.
He finished the regular season seventh in the conference in strikeouts. He scored his nine strikeouts in the opening game of a conference doubleheader at Clemson. Rhett made Demon Deacon history as the first sophomore to win the ACC Pitcher of the Year award. He also became the third player in program history to be unanimously named an All-American.
Rise to Fame
He was selected to the All-ACC First Team and the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First Team. With an 11-3 record and 99.1 innings pitched, he made Demon Deacon history by being a finalist for the Collegiate Pitcher of the Year Award.
He hit a career-high 105, which ranked 10th in program history, and became only the fifth pitcher in program history and the first since 2002 to win 11 games in a season. The only pitcher in the ACC to place in the top three for wins, strikeouts, earned run average and innings work, he was one of four pitchers in the country with 11 victories in the NCAA tournament.
Lowder competed in the NCAA as one of four pitchers in the country with 11 wins, an ACC record, and finished the regular season as the only ACC pitcher to finish in the top three in wins, strikeouts, ERA, and innings pitched.
