Sydney Steele is a veteran softball player on the Stanford Cardinals softball team. She is currently studying bioengineering. She competed in club softball with the OC Bat Busters and Social Athletic, helping the latter team win the 2017 TC/USA National Championship and place third in the 2019 18U PGF Nationals competition.
Early life
A native of Poway, California, Sydney Steele is the daughter of Marcy and John Steele and has one sister, Haley. During the 2012–2013 WCWS, her sister, who played softball for Arizona State, made two appearances.
As a senior (2019), she was the team captain at Poway High School in Poway, California, where she also graduated. Sydney led her club to two Palomar League championships (2017–18). She graduated from high school with the most doubles (16) and runs (38) ever recorded in her high school. Over the course of her four-year career, she hit .393 with 37 doubles, seven trebles, 11 homers, 114 runs scored, and 111 RBI.

Sydney Steele played in 25 games as a freshman, starting 22 of them (21 on second base) and hitting 13 runs, having four doubles, two homers, and 15 RBIs on batting 281. She had a .456 slugging percentage, a .414 average at the plate, made 13 team-high walks, and stole three bases in as many attempts.
Her second walk-off hit of the year was an RBI single against Nevada in the second game of a doubleheader. At the bottom of the ninth inning, she hit a walk-off grand slam that gave Stanford a 7-3 win over Fresno State. Sydney played left field and third base in 37 games as a sophomore, making 32 starts overall. She had a .247/.348/.289 season line with seven doubles, a triple, and 12 runs batted.

In the season opener against San Jose State on February 19, she notched a run-off triple. Assisted in two runs against Santa Clara on Feb. 21 and had doubles in back-to-back games against California Baptist and BYU. Midseason, she went on a six-game streak with an RBI, winning 2-3 over Utah with a run, a double, and an RBI.
Junior
Sydney struggled and started 60 games as a junior, all playing third base .221 (31 of 140), seven doubles, three home runs, and 21 RBI for the year. She had 125 assists, which earned her a top-10 spot in the Pac-12.
She also completed five double plays and hit a home run against Seattle while playing 2-on-2 with two RBIs. Sydney doubled to have one run and one run against Fresno State in back-to-back games against Saint Mary’s and Mount St. Mary’s.
She hit a home run in the win over Oregon and went 2-on-3 in the win over Minnesota with three RBIs, two runs, and three runs made. In the Arizona win, she won 3-on-3 and rode two runs.
