Early life
Tom Kaulitz was born on September 1, 1989, in Leipzig, East Germany. Kaulitz began writing music and playing the guitar at a young age. Kaulitz’s parents, Jörg and Simone Kaulitz, divorced when he was seven years old. His mother then dated and later married guitarist Gordon Trümper.
Gordon Trümper supported Tom and Bill in starting their band. In 2001 he founded the band Devilish together with drummer Gustav Schäfer, bassist Georg Listing and his brother Bill Kaulitz, who sings the lead. After agreeing to a record deal with Universal Music, they changed their name to Tokio Hotel in 2003.
