Tonya Mosley is an American radio and television journalist, podcaster, and correspondent. She is known for her work on several shows and podcasts, including Here & Now, Fresh Air, and Truth Be Told. Before her work in public radio and podcasting, Mosley worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at NBC33.
Early life
Tonya Mosley was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She earned a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. Based in various locations including Columbia, Missouri, Lansing, Michigan, Flint, Fort Wayne, Kentucky, and Seattle, Washington, Mosley began her career as a television reporter and producer. She was also a journalist for Al Jazeera America.
Mosley relocated to San Francisco, where she became a host and Silicon Valley office manager for KQED, the Bay Area public radio station. Technology, culture, innovation, and social justice were among the subjects Mosley dealt with. In addition, Mosley produced and hosted a race-related podcast titled Truth Be Told, which won the 2022 Webby Award for Best Advice Podcast.
Training
At Stanford University, where she co-designed a course for journalists on the effects of implied bias in reporting and co-authored a Belgian-American experimental study on the consequences of protest reporting, Mosley received a 2015 John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship as the third co-host of Here & Now, the midday radio show heard by millions of listeners nationwide, Mosley joins NPR and WBUR in 2019. She is a regular interviewer on Terry Gross’ Fresh Air show.
