She was actively involved in community service at Barbers Hill High School by hosting police and fire department softball games, mentoring young players, and participating in Adopt a Family for Christmas. Her prep career was crowned by a Texas Class 5A state win when she knocked out 12 batters and threw a one-hit complete-game shutout in the semifinals. During her senior season, she went 17-1 with a .40 ERA and hit 252 hitters in 121 innings pitched.
She has earned recognition at every level (District MVP, First Team All-Greater Houston, 2019 TGCA All-State Team) for her pitching during the 2019 campaign, hitting 189 batters. Sam struck out 65 strikeouts and was named Barbers Hill’s defensive MVP during the 2020 season, which was shortened by COVID-19.
She had a stellar 2020 summer for Houston Hotshots Premier-Dumezich, recording 170 strikeouts against top contenders at the ASA 18U Nationals and being named to the Extra Innings Softball 18U All-Summer Team. Sam led the Louisiana pitching team in wins in both conference play (12) and overall (20) during her freshman year in 2022. She led all Sun Belt pitchers in conference win percentage (12-1, .923).
She also went on a nine-game winning streak between March 19 and April 20, making eight starts with one earned run or fewer. In her first ten starts in SBC competition, she went unbeaten (8-0), hit at least five batsmen 13 times, and hit double digits three times. She dominated the Troy series, grabbing two wins but allowing just one run, four hits, and a .089 13-inning average and throwing a combined shutout against Texas State.
