Early life
Elizabeth Scherer was born on June 4, 1976 in Florida, USA. Her father is William R. Scherer, one of the founders of the law firm Conrad & Scherer. Her mother is Anne Scherer. She grew up with her two brothers – William R. Scherer III and John J. Scherer. Elizabeth attended Tallahassee Public Research University, Florida State University to earn a degree in English. She later joined the law school at the University of Miami, a private research university in Coral Gables, Florida.

Elizabeth served as a prosecutor under Michael J. Satz for more than a decade. She was appointed to the bench by the Republican government. Rick Scott in 2012. From 2001 to 2012 she was an Assistant District Attorney for the 17th Circuit. In 2014, she was re-elected unanimously to a six-year term that expired on January 4, 2021. In 2018, Judge Scherer came into the limelight when she criticized reporters from The South Florida Sun Sentinel for publishing news about Mr. Cruz’s therapy history.
She has ruled in favor of prosecution in many important cases. She recently made headlines for being involved in the Parkland School Shooting Trial case. Cruz is guilty of killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018. After sending prosecutors a memo about the defense attorneys’ meeting that saw Mr. Cruz in jail, she was asked to have her removed from the case. Because of such other complications, Cruz’s trial is delayed by a week.
