Hoda Kotb is an American broadcast writer, television character, and author. She is the primary co-host of the NBC News morning show Today and co-host of the entertainment-focused fourth hour. Kotb previously worked as a journalist for the television news magazine Dateline NBC.
Early life
Hoda Kotb was born on August 9, 1964 in Norman, a city in the US state of Oklahoma. She was born to her Egyptian parents, Sameha Kotb (mother) and Abdel Kader Kotb (father), a fossil fuel specialist listed in Who’s Who of Technology. Hoda was bought out along with her brother Adel and sister Hala in Morgantown, West Virginia and Alexandria, Virginia.
Hoda was very close to her father but sadly he left her in 1986 at the age of 51. She is a beautiful and multi-talented girl who was voted Homecoming Queen in her high school. Hoda graduated from Fort Hunt High School in 1982. For further studies, she attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and a degree in broadcast journalism.
Hoda Kotb Career
Hoda began her career after graduating from college working at CBS affiliate WXVT in Greenville, Mississippi. She then moved to ABC affiliate WQAD in Moline, Illinois, and worked as a reporter for a year. Kotb officially joined NBC News in April 1998 as a reporter for Dateline NBC and all NBC News stages. In 2011, she starred in a music video dedicated to cancer survivors entitled “I’m Gonna Love You Through It.”
In 2015, Kotb began hosting a seven-day, hour-long live show on Sirius XM’s Today channel that explored relaxed, water-cooled themes. Hoda became a co-host of Today in 2019 when NBC News host Matt Lauer was fired following allegations of sexually unfortunate behavior.
