Jeff Kurr was born in January 1960s in California and developed a fascination for sharks and other wildlife at a young age. Kurr graduated from San Diego State University in 1984 with a degree in telecommunications and film. Kurr pursued a career as a newscast director for network affiliate stations, where he won over 20 awards for his work, including the prestigious RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award in 1989. He later switched to natural history filmmaking, focusing on sharks and other animals. He joined Discovery Channel’s Shark Week in 1991 and has been a part of it ever since.
