Miesha Tate is an American mixed martial artist who is an expert in submission wrestling. She has an MMA record of 19 wins and 8 losses. In 2010, she was crowned winner of the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Tournament. She is also the FCF Women’s Bantamweight Championship.
Early life
Miesha Tate was born on August 18, 1986 in Tacoma, Washington, United States of America. Her parents’ names are Rob Tate and Michelle Tate. She has a sister named Felicia Martin. Miesha went to Franklin Pierce High School. There she chose amateur wrestling over basketball. She later went to Central Washington University for her advanced and postgraduate studies and attended the Mixed Martial Arts Club.
Miesha Tate’s career
Miesha started her career as a wrestler. In 2005, she competed in the girls’ national championship and won the title in wrestling. Over the next year, she fought in many amateur fights, scoring a record of 5-1 in MMA before turning pro. In 2007 she made her professional debut at the HOOKnSHOOT Women’s Grand Prix. She competed in various small fights like Cage Sports MMA, Freestyle Cage Fighting, Atlas Fighting and many more in 2008/09.
In January 2010 she won her first MMA title at FCF. She has also made her debut in Strikeforce and has competed with Elaina Maxwell, Sarah Kaufman, Zoila Gurgel and others. In February 2013, she officially joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship. She competed in various matches against Cat Zingano, Liz Carmouche, Rin Nakai, Sara McMann, Jessica Eye, Holly Holm and many more.
In these games, she has won the title of UFC champion. After competing against Raquel Pennington and Jessica Eye in a few matches, she announced her retirement from mixed martial arts in 2016. On November 7, 2018, she joined the ONE Championship as Vice President. She later announced her return to the game on March 24, 2021.
She faced off against Marion Reneau and won the fight that earned her the second Performance of the Night award of her UFC career. She also faced Keteln Viera at UFC Fight Night 195 but was rescheduled to November 20, 2021 at UFC Fight Night 198. On May 14, 2022, she will face Lauren Murphey at UFC Fight Night 209.
Controversy
In one of her YouTube videos, she was discussing the transition from bantamweight to flyweight, where a user asked her if she would consider creating an Onlyfans account. Only Fans is a content subscription service where scan creators earn money from users who subscribe to their content. She closed the idea and replied to the user, “No. Where in that video did I say I’m desperate?” She received backlash for making that statement. But when she realized her mistake and sincerely apologized. Also stated that she has no intention of demeaning other fighters who own Onlyfans accounts.
