After retirement, he earned an advanced degree in applied cognition and neuroscience from the University of Texas at Dallas. It became one of the most important parts of his life as he gained a strong connection to neuroscience and thereby helped support his military brothers and the first responders.
In doing so, he serves as the campaign leader for the ReBoot program – a veteran support program that helps achieve a comprehensive and individualized approach by helping to work to increase mental and physical well-being, particularly for the American military and first responders. The program was delivered with the expertise of the Center for BrainHealth at the University of Texas (Dallas), where Morgan worked as a post-graduate research scientist.
In 2017, Morgan received the Department of Energy appointment for the position of Senior Advisor to the Secretary. Currently, Morgan has completed his executive education at Harvard Business School.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Luttrell was traveling abroad on an Army helicopter en route to a training exercise. The helicopter crashed and caused an explosion. This resulted in Luttrell breaking his back in numerous places. He had to suffer a severe craniocerebral trauma, which had to subject him to several therapies and operations for months. While Luttrell sought help from doctors and recovered from his injuries, he signed up to participate in the clinical trial. He underwent cognitive testing and learned how to improve his skills after going through various traumatic stress issues.
Morgan developed a journey of self-discovery and a keen interest in treating brain injuries through various treatments and therapies. He received his training in cognitive neuroscience while serving as Senior Advisor to the Secretary and Director of Translational Research and Applied Analytics at the Department of Energy.
Through his research and combining clinical data from the Department of Energy, Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies, he aims to develop a mission that would help improve the quality of life for veterans suffering from serious injuries in a short period of time .
