Shalanda Young is an American policy consultant who currently serves as Associate Director and Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget. She is a Democrat and also has experience working for the post of director of the US House Appropriations Committee.
Early life
Shalanda Young was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States, but she has not shared the exact date and year of her birth. She was raised in Clinton, Louisiana, and is currently estimated to be in her late 40s. Other than that, not much is known about her early life and background, and her parents and surnames have not been shared either, but what is known is that she is a Christian and has a black ethnic background. Shalanda is known to have completed her bachelor’s degree in art from Loyola University in New Orleans. She later also attended Tulane University, where she received her Master of Health Administration degree.
Shalanda Young Career
Shalanda began her career in 2001 when she moved to Washington DC to attend the National Institutes of Health as a Presidential Management Fellow. She later worked as an associate for the US House Committee on Appropriations and was appointed Staff Director in 2017. Shalanda was instrumental in the 2018-19 US federal government shutdown proposals and the Covid 19 response. She also oversaw $1.3 trillion in annual appropriations bills and disaster relief efforts during Covid 19. Young served on the committee for more than 14 years and recently left this year after being nominated for the post of deputy director in the Office of Administration and Budget in 2021.
She was also confirmed as acting director until the position was filled. However, after Neera Tanden’s nomination for the director’s position faced challenges and opposition, Shalanda emerged as the obvious choice for the US Senate to fill the director’s position. Therefore, it is now declared that in a few months, she will soon be appointed Director of the OMB. Until then, she would serve as both Deputy Director and Acting Director. She was the first black woman to hold this position at OMB.
