Early life
Shane McClanahan was born on April 28, 1997, in Baltimore, Maryland. Shane lived in Baltimore until age five and was raised by his father, James “Clancy” McClanahan, and his mother, Lisa McClanahan, who is a homemaker. He says he was coached all his life through high school by his father, James, who used to be very hard on him, praising other kids, giving high-fives, and making them feel good.
Shane has developed into a multi-sport athlete. He grew up watching soccer and goalkeeping and hitting and pitching with his right hand other than golf. But as he grew up, he settled on baseball as his preferred career choice.
Baseball runs in Shane’s family blood, which he inherited from his father, who played baseball in high school and was more of a “football guy”. His grandfather was a left pitcher in his school days and he had his uncle named Tim Hagemann who primarily played baseball at the bottom end of the minor league system for two seasons.
Shane received his education at Cape Coral High School in Cape Coral, Florida after his family moved to Southwest Florida from Baltimore, so he decided to play in college rather than sign or enlist with the Mets. Shane was born in Baltimore and lived there until he was 5 years old. He only attended high school in Florida after his family moved there.
