Sophia Anne Caruso is an American actress and singer. She burst into the limelight with her rising role of Lydia Deetz in the Broadway musical Beetlejuice, for which she also won a Theater World Award. Despite this, she has also worked in other parts, including Girl in Lazarus (2015-17) and Iris in The Nether (2015).
She’s been in the news since October 2022 for her re-emerging role of Sophie, a young girl who wants to escape her simple life to become a princess, in the Netflix movie titled The School for Good and Evil. Childhood, Early Life & Education
Caruso was born on July 11, 2001, and turned 21 in 2022. She and her family are from Spokane, Washington, where her father, Steve Caruso, and mother, Deena, turned golfers (now a former golfer) Caruso owns a clothing and jewelry store. Caruso has two older siblings; She has been involved in acting since she was seven years old. She initially continued her acting and drama classes at the local Spokane Children’s Theater before moving on to other theaters called the Spokane Civic Theater and Interplayers Professional Theater.
Rise to Fame
Caruso made her professional debut at the age of nine in 2011, playing the role of Helen Keller in the Spokane production of The Miracle Worker (at Interplayers Professional Theatre). Her last role was in Spokane as Tina Denmark in Ruthless! The Musical in 2012 at the Interplayers Theater. The production never opened on set, however, as actor David Gigler collapsed onstage during rehearsals before opening and died at the moment. Later that same year, Caruso went to New York with her entire family to continue her professional career.

Theatre
In 2014, Caruso was allowed to reprise her role as Tina Denmark Ruthless! At the Triad Theater for a limited time. The following month she got another chance to play the role of Charlotte van Gotheem in Little Dancer at the Kennedy Center (Washington, DC). In 2015, Caruso appeared in an Off-Broadway play called The Nether at the MCC Theater for which she also received a Lucille Lortel nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress. She later made her Broadway debut as The Girl in Blackbird at the Belasco Theatre. She performed in the role of the encores! This was performed at the Runaways concert production at New York City Center.
Then, in 2016, she reprised her role as Lazarus in the King’s Cross Theater production, for which she received a nomination from the WhatsOnStage Awards. In 2017 she took on the role of Lydia Deetz in the musical Beetlejuice. She also got a chance to reprise the role in the rehearsal of the musical at the National Theater – in Washington, DC. She also received the Theater World Award for the role. On February 19, 2020, she left her role to pursue her career in films and the big screen.

Caruso made her debut in the music industry with her single “Toys,” which was released on May 22, 2020.
Movies
Caruso recently made her debut starring in films on Netflix. She worked alongside Sofia Wylie in the fantasy film The School for Good and Evil, which is actually the takeover of Soman Chainani’s book series.
Future plans
Earlier she showed her curiosity that she wanted to release an EP in the future, which she proved right (though not with the EP she dreamed of). She recently released her single “Snow & Ice” in July 2022 and “Thing Like That” on September 30, 2022.
