Chase Burns is an American college baseball pitcher for the Tennessee Volunteers. Feeling at home in Tennessee both professionally and culturally, he decided to move there. He was ranked the #17 overall high school talent and Tennessee’s #1 player by Perfect Game.
Chase was ranked the fifth-best right-hander in the country by Perfect Game and the 42nd-best pitcher in the country by Prep Baseball Report. He was selected for the Perfect Game 2020 National Showcase Top Prospect Team.
Early life
Chase Burns was born on January 16, 2003, in Naples, Italy but currently resides in Gallatin, Tennessee. He is the son of Trinetti and David Burns and has an older sister, Breanna Burns. His father, David, was a star Division II quarterback at North Greenville University.
Burns attended Station Camp High School, his alma mater, in his hometown of Gallatin, Tennessee. Before beginning his senior year, he transferred to Beech Senior High School. In the 20th round of the 2021 MLB draft, the San Diego Padres picked Burns. In the end, however, Burns did not sign with the Padres.

When Burns first arrived in Tennessee, he was given a starting role with the Volunteers. His last season numbers were 8-2, 2.91 ERA, 103 Ks, and 81 1/3 IP thrown. At the end of the season, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association voted Burns Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
On 12.05. against Georgia, he made his backup professional debut with 1.2 innings and three strikeouts. He hit four over four innings against Kentucky and nine over five innings against Auburn.
Making his first SEC away start against Ole Miss, he pitched seven innings and batted 11, a career-best. In his first SEC start against South Carolina, he pitched 6.2 innings and knocked out nine batters.
Against Rhode Island, he batted six batters in five innings to secure his third season win, and against Texas he batted a career-high of ten batters in five innings. He got his second win of the season after going five innings against Iona and hitting four strikeouts while not conceding any earned runs.
Rise to Fame
He started in the first game of the season-opening series against Georgia Southern, hit five strikeouts in five innings, and earned his first collegiate win. With 105 strikeouts so far this season, he has surpassed 100 strikeouts in consecutive seasons for the first time in his career. His 14.3 K/9 is third in the country and second in the SEC.
Tennessee advanced to the 2023 College World Series thanks to his 2.2 innings of assist work in the seventh inning of the NCAA Hattiesburg Super Regional Finals against #9 Southern Miss (6/12). His fastball hit 102 mph in the final strikeout of the inning.
Game 2 of the NCAA Hattiesburg Super Regional was a shutout and he finished it with just six pitches. In the first game of the series on 27.4. he played for 2.1 innings, knocked out four batters, and allowed just one hit against Mississippi State to earn the win.
After leaving the bullpen for the first time this season and putting on an incredible performance in the series opener against #2 Vanderbilt, going three innings, hitting seven strikeouts, and in an extra-innings thriller where he earned the win, just allowed a baserunner, he perfected the series finale against the Commodores with a clean ninth inning and a strikeout.
Away against Grand Canyon, he made his MLB Desert Invitational debut in 2023, where he hit six over 4.2 innings while conceding just three hits and zero earned runs. After giving up two runs, he was benched and played no part in the final score.
