David Pierce is the head coach currently leading the Texas Longhorns in the NCAA tournament. Early life
Pierce was born on October 13, 1962, in Houston, Texas. He grew up playing baseball and attended St. Pius X High School. He played college baseball at Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, and Berry Colleges as a middle infielder. After graduating, he earned a degree in economics and finance from Berry College and later earned a master’s degree in business administration from Wake Forest University.

Pierce began his coaching career in 1991 as an assistant at Rice University. He then coached at various high schools in Texas before returning to the college ranks in 2001 as an assistant at the University of Houston. He spent nine years as an assistant at Rice, where he helped the team win a national championship in 2003 and develop several future major league players.
David became the head coach of Sam Houston State University in 2011 and led the team to three consecutive Southland Conference titles and NCAA regional appearances. He was twice named Southland Coach of the Year and once ABCA Regional Coach of the Year. Pierce transferred to Tulane University in 2015 and led the team to an American Athletic Conference title and an NCAA regional league appearance.
