Early life

Alessia Zecchini was born on June 30, 1992, and grew up with her loving and caring parents. Enzo Zecchini is her father, her mother’s name is not known. Her father graduated from La Sapienza University in Rome.

He is currently working as deputy director of a company in Italy. Alessia’s mother is a housewife and takes care of the family. Zecchini received her education from 2006 to 2011 at the Liceo Scientifico Secondary School and from 2010 to 2014 at the Università di Roma “Foro Italico”.

From 2007 to 2010, Alessia took part in several rallies alongside the national team, but due to her young age, she was unable to compete in the highest category competitions. In 2011 she took part in the first Italian competition in Turin, where she took second place behind Ilaria Bonin.

This success secured her a place in the national team. Then, in 2012, she took part in the European Championships of the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS) in Antalya, Turkey, where she placed fourth in JUmp Blue and sixth in static apnea.

In 2013 she had her first success and the world record in Kazan, Russia. She won the gold medal in static freediving with an average time of 6’23 inches. In 2014, she entered the AIDA International competition for the first time, winning three silver medals in monofin dynamic apnea with 223 m, setting two Italian records.

Rise to Fame

In 2015, Alessia took part in the CMAS World Indoor Championships in Mulhouse together with her partner Ilaria Bonin. As a team, they achieved notable success, securing an impressive collection of five gold and silver medals.

In June 2016, she won three gold medals during the CMAS World Indoor Championships and set a world record with three CMAS championships. In 2017, Zecchini began her freediving practice with her international trainer and safety diver Stephen Keenan, who died in June of that year while she and the diver were doing a recreational dive over the Arch of the Blue Hole.

Later this dive was not recorded as the couple was full of mistakes and difficulties that led to the great disaster. After that, Zecchini was under the direction of Martin Zajac until the 2018 season competition. That same year, she set the world record with a depth of −104 m (−341 ft) at the Vertical Blue competition on May 10 in the Bahamas.

In 2018, Zecchini set another world record in competition weight [CWT] on May 10th in Colombia at the Nirvana Oceanquest freediving competition. She set two more world records at the 2019 Nirvana Oceanquest event in Curaçao. After two days, she became the first woman to set the record for a depth of −100 m (−330 ft).

In July 2021, she set three CMAS world records in the vertical blue on Long Island, Bahamas. In October of that year, she competed in the CMAS Outdoor World Championships, winning a gold and a silver medal.
