Evan McPherson is an American football player who plays kicker for the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). He previously went to the University of Florida and was later drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the 149th pick overall. He was the only kicker selected for the draft of the round.
Evan McPherson was born on July 21, 1999 and will be only 23 years old in 2022. He grew up alongside his older brother named Logan, who was also an all-state kicker for Fort Payne High School and later played punter for Louisiana Tech University. Evan’s younger brother, Alex, was named a Fort Payne All-State Kicker in 2019 and a punter in 2020. In 2021, Alex announced his intention and commitment to play at Auburn University. Currently, Alex is the highest ranking kicker for the class of 2022.
Evan McPherson began his football career at Fort Payne High School in Fort Payne, Alabama. He spent his four years as the team’s kicker and punter. At Fort Payne, he made a 60-yard field goal and an 84-yard punt. Both kicks set an Alabama high school record. In 2017, he made his first-team all-state. McPherson played college football in Florida from 2018 to 2020 before deciding to give up his senior season and enter the NFL draft. In Florida, McPherson compiled an overall record of 51-60 field goals, which was one of the Southeastern Conference’s highest career field goal percentage records. He made 149-150 extra points and 5 of 8 career field goal attempts for at least 50 yards.

McPherson was drafted in the 2021 NFL draft as the 149th overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round. He hit perfect 5/5s on field goals in the Bengals’ three 2021 preseason games. In addition, he made a 57-yard kick. At the end of the preseason, the Bengals released the only kicker on the roster, Austin Seibert, and named McPherson as the starter for the 2021 regular season. McPherson became the first Fort Payne High School player to play in NFL regular season play. McPherson finished the season by scoring 28/33 on field goal and an 84.8 average percentage with 9-of-11 attempts within at least 50 yards.
In the playoff game against the Las Vegas Raiders, he scored 4 of 4 field goals and named the win after his team with an overall score of 26-19. The game was billed as their first postseason win in 31 years. In the divisional round, McPherson was again on 4/4 field goals, including two of them for 50 yards. After time was up, he scored his 52-yard field goal. This gave the Bengals a 19-16 aggregate victory over the Titans. Most recently, in January 2022, he led his team to their first AFC Championship game title win since 1988.
