Eve Wembanyama is a French basketball player currently residing in France. Eve has represented her country at several levels of competition, including with the U-21 side and Monaco. As the sister of San Antonio Spurs basketball player Victor, Wembanyama put her on the map.
Early life
Eve Wembanyama was born on December 10, 2001. Eve Wembanyama’s father is Felix Wembanyama and her mother is Elodie de Fautereau. As a track and field competitor, her father took part in competitions such as the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Her mother has a background in basketball, both as a player and as a coach. She is the younger sibling of brothers Victor and Oscar Wembanyama. Her brothers are NBA players: Victor, who recently signed with the San Antonio Spurs, and Oscar, who is on the rise.
Even as a child, Eve Wembanyama led a busy life. Her parents actively encouraged her to pursue a career in a sport of her choice, as they were also athletes. She enjoyed playing basketball and it became one of her favorite sports. Her parents encouraged her to be active in sports, and she did, too. As a high school student, she took part in many competitions. At the age of 14, she moved to Lyon to play for the prestigious basketball team ASVEL (Association Sportive de Villeurbanne Éveil Lyonnais).
Eve made her competitive basketball debut at the 2017 FIBA European Under-16 Women’s Championship. She played five games throughout the tournament, averaging 2.6 points per competition. She was a competitor in FIBA U20 Women’s European Challengers (2021), EuroLeague Women (2020, LDLC ASVEL Feminin), etc.
Eve Wembanyama Career
She started her professional club career in 2019 after signing with Lyon squad LDLC ASVEL Feminin. However, she only appeared in three games and had one assist all season. She previously played for LFB’s Lyon Basketball Feminine (2019–20) and LF2’s Calais (2020–22). Eve won a gold medal with the France national basketball team at the 2017 European Championships and the FIBA U16 World Championship.
After playing at LFB for a season, she joined LF2 at Cote D’opale Basket Calais for the coming year. Due to her longer playing time (30 games), she had more chances of success. Eve scored 30 points, had 10 assists, and grabbed 52 boards.
In the 2021/22 season, her best year, she scored 103 points. She has won a total of 17 appearances and 64 boards. Her outstanding game prompted her to leave the club and sign with Monaco. So far this season she has appeared in 14 games. She is outstanding even when the team is struggling. She scored 90 points, grabbed 75 boards, and gave out 25 assists. LDLC ASVEL Feminin Club offered her a spot in the 2020 EuroLeague Women’s League squad.
A gluteus muscle injury she sustained in 2022 didn’t slow her down, and in 2023 she was back in court. Eve’s talent and determination also landed her an internship with the France national team, where she was able to observe and learn from national team captain Victoria Majekodunmi. Eve recognizes the importance of this season for her long-term development and is grateful to coach Régis Racine for the trust he has placed in her.
