Gavin Newsom, in full Gavin Christopher Newsom, is an American-based politician and businessman. He is the 40th governor of California. After high school and graduation, Newsom formed and became an investor in a business called PlumpJack Wine Store with one of his family friends, Gordon Getty. Today, the PlumpJack group has expanded to nearly 23 concurrent businesses, including restaurants, hotels, wineries, and many more.
Early life
Gavin Newsom was born on October 10, 1967. He was born and raised in San Francisco to his parents named Tessa Thomas and William Alfred Newsom III. His father worked as a judge and attorney for Getty Oil. Newsom’s maternal great-grandfather, Scotsman Thomas Addis, was a well-known scientist in the field of nephrology. He also worked as a professor of medicine at Stanford University. Thus, Newsom belongs to the kind of family that has a lot of contact with the world. Newsom is the second cousin of a musician named Joanna Newsom, who is an actress, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist.
Newsom’s parents divorced in 1972 when he was only 5 years old. Seeing his family circumstances and suffering from a learning disability in his childhood, it was not easy for him to recover. Newsom, along with his investors, formed a small company on May 4, 1991, called PlumpJack Associates LP. Later in 1992, the group began operating the PlumpJack Winery with financial support from his family friend named Gordon Getty. PlumpJack was the name of an opera written by Getty, who went on to invest in 10 out of 11 companies. In one of his interviews with the San Francisco Chronicle, Getty revealed that he always treated Gavin like his son and invested in his first business as a gamble because of the relationship. Based on their success in the first, they opened other new businesses. Newsom’s political career began when he volunteered for Willie Brown’s campaign in 1995.
Back then, he was hosting a private fundraiser at his PlumpJack Cafe. Newsome was later appointed by Brown to fill his vacant seat on the Parks and Transport Commission in 1996 and was later elected President of the commission. Newsom began his political career in 1996 when he was appointed to the city’s Parks and Transportation Commission by Willie Brown. In 2003, at the age of 36, Newsome was elected the 42nd mayor of San Francisco, becoming one of the youngest mayors of the century. He was re-elected in 2007 with 72% of the vote. In 2010, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of California and later re-elected in 2014. Newsom prevailed in the 2021 recall election, becoming one of the second governors elected by recall in United States history.

Personal life
In 2001, Newsom married Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former prosecutor and legal analyst who worked for MSNBC, CNN, and Court TV. She was one of the prominent figures at Fox News. Gavin married her at Saint Ignatius Catholic Church. The marriage couldn’t work out for them, and they filed for divorce together in January 2005, citing the reason they both had difficulties being together despite their different career paths. They split on February 28, 2006.
