Early life
Jess was reportedly born on August 15, 1990, to her Irish mother and French father. She grew up speaking English and French. Jess went to France for her middle and high school. During her time there, Jess also attended a theater school, Cours Florent. For the senior year of high school, Jess flew back to California, USA, and entered the performing arts program at the Marin School of the Arts.
Jess has a BA in Acting from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow, UK. Chanliau was an exchange artist from Scotland to France and performed at the Conservatoire National Supériuer d’Art Dramatique in Paris. Jess spent a full year in Paris studying and performing. During her studies in Europe, Jess faced many transphobias. They used to have problems with the language as French is a very binary language.

Chanliau is an actor by training and started performing at a young age. Jess has spent years studying and performing in France, Paris, Scotland, Glasgow, and Santa Maria. In 2019, Jess played over 20 different characters in the play South Bend at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They later toured the whole of Scotland with the play. Jess has played the role of Viola, a thoroughly trans character in the play Twelfth Night, and the queer role of Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet.
Chanliau has also played several other roles in various Shakespearean plays. Jess’ first film role was a supporting role in The Riven. They appeared in a 2020 episode of Brave New World as BJill23. In 2020, Jess directed her first feature-length film, Inmate Zero, starring Stone. The film was released worldwide. They most recently starred as Ronnie on the television show The Diplomat for eight episodes.
In addition to acting, Jess has also learned techniques from Lecoq, Laban, yoga, and acrobatics. Jess has completed a residency with the Scottish Trans Alliance. They dealt with the rights of the trans community and how they can defend their rights. Jess plans to work as an Equality and Diversity Officer.
