Kelley Lynch is a senior softball player from East Coweta High School and proved to be the backbone of the Huskies softball team throughout the 2023 NCAA season. She showed up whenever the team needed her and proved to be a savior in difficult situations. Ever since she was in high school, she has remained an outstanding athlete and even every coach said she was the one, and now she’s proving them right.
Early life
Kelley Lynch was born on October 6, 2000, and grew up in Newnan, Georgia. She is the daughter of Steve Lynch and Jan Lynch and has one sister, Katey. Her sister played softball at Kennesaw State University with a goal of one day representing the United States in the Olympics. As a 2019 high school senior, she ran for National High School Player of the Year. She received the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year award in 2018 and again in 2019.
Kelly Lynch career
Kelley had three walks and eight strikeouts in four at-bats against Dixie State and Nevada, respectively. She scored her first treble of her career with two hits on the plate and two strikeouts in San Diego State University’s win over Hawaii. She hit a home run against then-seventh Arizona State and a double against then-fourteenth Arizona State.
Kelley picked up a no-hit proposal in the sixth and a half innings on April 10 at Oregon State and had nine hits in six innings in a win over Cal. She had two singles and three runs to help Michigan climb out of the Regionals where they were eliminated against Utah.
Kelley’s six strikeouts in her first game as a Husky was the most by a rookie since Danielle Lawrie, and she shared the record for most Pac-12 Rookie of the Week honors with Gabbie Plain in 2018. She completed three runs and walked on February 14 in a walk against fifth-ranked Florida State.
Rise to Fame
She was the first husky to do so since Kaitlin Inglesby in 2013, and the only newcomer to do so, along with Inglesby in 2011. In addition to her double run and six-strikeout performance against Liberty, she also pitched for 5.1 innings scoreless. She hit her first career grand slam against No. 11 Michigan and became the only Husky to ever hit multiple walk-off homers in a season.
In her junior year, Kelley threw a full-game shutout against New Mexico State, conceding just three hits and hitting five hitters for the first shutout of her career. On April 15 of that year, she set a career-high with 15 strikeouts against New Mexico State at then-ranked 19th in Oregon State.
In the overall win over Utah Valley, she beat a career-best 16 batters and threw a scoreless 4.2 innings in the win over #19 Stanford. She had 10 extra-base hits and 6 multiple-hit games, both of which were career highs.
