Lindsay Gottlieb switched her attention to basketball in seventh grade. She took a year off from playing basketball to study abroad in Australia in 1997. After her 1999 graduation, as she was heading home, an offer came through for an assistant coach position at Syracuse University. She was an assistant at the University of New Hampshire from 2001-2002. Gottlieb was then an assistant at the University of Richmond from 2002-2005. She was hired as an assistant at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2005.
Later, she became associate head coach from 2007–2008, and her responsibilities involved recruiting and scouting. Lindsay Gottlieb gained valuable experience and was named head coach of the University of California, Santa Barbara, from 2008–2011. In April 2011, she returned to the University of California, Berkeley, and served there from 2011–2019. She was the ninth head coach of the Golden Bears.
On 12th June 2019, She joined the Cleveland Cavaliers and signed a four-year contract as an assistant coach. She also became part of new head coach John Beilein’s staff. Became the seventh female assistant coach in NBA history in 2019. She became the first NCAA women’s head coach to be hired by an NBA team (2019-2021). In May 2021, She joined the women’s head coach at the University of Southern California.
