Shakur Stevenson is an American professional boxer who is a world champion in two weight classes, namely WBO Junior Lightweight and WBO Featherweight. As an amateur, he presented USA at the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning the silver medal at bantamweight. As of October 2021, he has earned the honor of being named the world’s top junior lightweight by ESPN, The Ring Magazine and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.
Shakur Stevenson was born on June 28, 1997. He is currently from Newark, New Jersey. He is one of the eldest of his mother Malikah Stevenson’s nine children.
Shakur raised by his mother and his stepfather Shahid Guyton while his biological father’s name is not known but one thing is certain that he was of Puerto Rican descent who played no role in Shakur’s life.

Shakur Stevenson has been very bright and focused since childhood in order to achieve a meaningful boxing life. In fact, he thrived in his youth where he won various youth championship titles including the 2014 AIBA World Youth Championships, the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games, and the Senior US Olympic Trials, becoming the highest-medal male boxer for the United States.
In 2015, he won the Senior US Olympics Trial title and qualified for the US boxing team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he won the silver medal and lost the gold medal to Cuban personality Robeisy Ramirez.
Shakur Stevenson embarked on the path of professionalism on February 9, 2017 when he first signed an endorsement deal with Top Rank and struck a deal with Andre Ward as his manager. Shakur showed his quirkiness, quick wits and quick actions when he won the title in his first fight against American boxer Edgar Brito.
Shakur’s first super featherweight fight was on December 12, 2020 against Toka Khan Clary. He defeated Clary and won the fight by a large margin on the scorecards with a 100-90 aggregate score and the win on his hands. Later, on October 23, 2021, Shakur won the WBO junior lightweight championship in Atlanta, Georgia.
It was a one-way performance that saw Shakur Stevenson with a remarkable win and high hand speed. With that performance, Shakur became world champion in two divisions and defeated Herring by technical knockout in the tenth round after being ahead of him in all three judges’ decisions.
Involvement in disputes
Shakur Stevenson and fellow boxer David Grayton were once involved in an altercation in a South Beach parking garage. The two boxers, who were commenting on the group of people in a parking garage, got into an altercation and were arrested on July 1, 2018. Later, on June 18, 2019, however, Shakur agreed to the deal and was acquitted of all charges against him, after opting for a year’s probation and 50 hours of community service. However, he had already settled payment of medical expenses to the victim.
