Early life
Morgan Ortagus was born Morgan Deann Ortagus on July 10, 1982 by her parents. She is the daughter of her father, Ronal E., owner of a cleaning and restoration business, and her mother, Denise C. Ortagus, a business executive. She was born and raised in Auburndale, Florida, United States of America with her twin sister Megan Ortagus, a famous actress.
Morgan attended a local high school as an undergraduate, after which she graduated from Florida Southern University in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in political science. She also attended Johns Hopkins University, where she received her Masters in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in 2009 and a Masters of Arts in Government in 2013.
Morgan Ortagu’s career
Morgan’s political career began in 2006 when she worked as press secretary for former Deputy National Security Advisor KT McFarland’s Senate campaign. In 2007, Morgan was a public affairs officer with the United States Agency for International Development where she worked under the George W. Bush administration, where she spent many months in Baghdad, Iraq until 2008, which was Morgan’s first government service.
Morgan later joined the US Treasury Department where she worked as an intelligence analyst for Africa and the Middle East. In 2010, Morgan served as deputy financial attaché under the Obama administration, which was based at the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Morgan joined the private sector after returning to the United States, initially working as a global client advisor at Standard Chartered Bank, working with clients from Asia, the Middle East and Africa before joining Ernst in 2016 as a managing director & Young, where she helped found EY’s Geostrategic Business Group, where she worked on geopolitical risk analysis for investors.
Morgan then also worked as a national security staffer and Republican strategist at Fox News Channel and she has appeared on Fox & Friends, Outnumbered, The Five and Mornings with Maria. She later co-founded Go Advisors and Samantha Vinograd, a geopolitical risk and policy consulting firm.
US State Department spokesman
She also served on Maverick PAC’s National Board of Directors as National Co-Chair. Morgan returned to government in 2019, replacing Heather Nauert as US State Department spokeswoman. She was named spokeswoman on April 3, 2019, a position she held until the end of the Trump administration and later went on maternity leave in 2020.
Upon returning from maternity leave, Morgan joined the Atlantic Council where she served as a Senior Advisor to the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security and also started as a founding investor in Rubicon Founders, a healthcare investment firm, in February 2021.

A successful independent woman, Morgan married her husband Jonathan Weinberger in 2013 and their marriage was presided over by her neighbor, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Morgan had previously been married but her ex-husband Joshua Doobs was a US Navy officer but the couple divorced a few years later.
