Nailya Asker-Zade is a Russian journalist and a sanctioned pro-Kremlin state TV presenter. She is an award-winning personality who received the TEFI-2018 award. She made headlines after being photographed with Elon Musk over the weekend.
Early life
Nailya Asker-Zade, born December 13, 1987, grew up in Baku, where she spent her childhood with her family. She graduated from the French Special School in Volgograd with a gold medal and later entered the Faculty of Economics at Volgograd State University. From 2017 to 2019 she completed her master’s program in International Finance, where she also wrote a master’s thesis on “The Consequences of Sanctions on the Russian Financial Sector”.
The name of Nailya’s mother is unknown, but during her time in the physiological department of the maternity hospital, she was a registered nurse. Nailya’s father’s name is Vagif Asker-zade, who used to be a geophysicist and later went into business. Her grandfather was a 1st rank captain. Shortly after the birth of Nailya, her parents divorced. Her father stayed in Baku and later died in 2018. She grew up alongside her other sibling — a sister — Inara Asker-zade, who is known to work at VTB.

Skilled TV presenter and reporter, Nailya Asker-Zade moved to Moscow and received further training in business news at NTV. From 2007 to 2010 she worked at RBC-TV for at least three years as an international editor with a combination of other jobs in the finance department of Kommersant magazine. She later moved from the economic department to the economic block of the Vedomosti newspaper, where she worked from May 2010 to August 2011.

It is known that she shot the documentary series Dangerous Virus while working against the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia (the documentary will be shot in Vector Novosibirsk laboratory). As part of the filming, she interviewed exclusive footage of different people or personalities, worked on the various treatment protocols, and took footage of the “red zone” from the hospitals. On October 25, 2020, she released one of her films “A Dangerous Virus. Rescue plan”, where many different personalities gave their perspective on what is happening and the upcoming scenarios regarding the Russian economy. At the end of 2020 and 2021, she released the films “one” and movie “two” as part of her film cycles.
She worked as a host of the Direct Line with Vladimir Putin program on June 30, 2021, and in the same year worked on the film adaptation of the events of 1991. The film was later shown on Russian TV on the Russia-1 TV channel. There were two films titled 30 Years GKChP released on August 15, 2021, and 30 Years Without Union released on December 5, 2021.
