Rafael was born on June 3, 1986 in Manacor, Balearic Islands, Spain to his parents Ana Maria Parera Femenias and Sebastian Nadal Homar. He turned professional at age 15 and won his first ATP match, while at age 18 he became the youngest player to achieve a Davis Cup singles win. Rafael won his first Grand Slam title in 2005 at the French Open against Mariano Puerta and won 3 consecutive French Open titles in the following years.
He lost his first-ever Wimbledon season in 2006 but won against world No. 1 Rodger Federer in the 2008 season.
