Sharna Burgess was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia to Ray Burgess and Lucy Burgess. Sharna is her parents’ only child and describes her childhood as growing up like a tomboy. She loved to climb trees, shoot guns and do all sorts of mischief. Sharna was born and raised in Australia but soon moved to London.

Sharna Burgess was in a long-term relationship with her dance partner Paul Kirkland, whom she met on the sets of Street Dance 2. The couple started dating in 2010 and were together until 2015. Sharna discovered her love for dance at a young age and began her training in ballet, jazz and gymnastics. When she turned 8 years old she also started taking ballroom lessons and started her journey to win many in many competitions held at local and national level. She explored all different dance styles and even played multiple sports.
When she was 15, she represented Australia at the World Championships and performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics. When she was 18 she moved to London where she bagged titles and appeared on many shows. Sharna was also a member of the floor cast.
She was first seen on television in Australia’s Dancing with the Stars and Belgium and Netherlands’ So You Think You Can Dance. She started out as a troupe member and then rose to regular pro, where she first appeared on the show’s 16th season in 2013 as Andy Dick’s partner. In the end they secured 7th place.
