Shireen Abu Akleh was a Palestinian-American journalist by profession. She worked for the Arabic-language channel called Al Jazeera for around 25 years and where she was last offered condolences during her death – which happened in a raid during the May 11, 2022 coverage of the news. Shireen Abu Akleh was born in January 1971 to a Palestinian Arab Christian family from Bethlehem. She grew up in Jerusalem with her family, all of Arab-Christian descent from Bethlehem. She attended secondary school in Beit Hanina and then received her degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology where she studied architecture and was later transferred to Yarmouk University in Jordan where she received her bachelor’s degree in print journalism. After graduating in Jordan, she returned to Palestine.

Shireen began her work as a journalist for Radio Monte Carlo and Voice of Palestine. In addition, she has worked for other channels including UNRWA, Amman Satellite Channel and MIFTAH.
She was credited with her main work at Al Jazeera, where she began working as a journalist in 1997 and became known for her reporting style on the most important enumerable events related to Palestine, including coverage of the Second Intifada and Israeli politics.
Most of her notable reporting has included her accounts of funerals for Palestinians killed by Israeli forces. Abu Akleh continued to work and report for Al Jazeera broadcaster until she was killed by Israeli forces in the May 2022 raid (as it was believed she would have to be killed by armed forces gunfire).
Abu Akleh has mainly covered the Middle Eastern and internationally recognized news levels for more than two decades. She was closely associated and connected with the Palestinians and gained great respect during her work profile in the world.

Abu Akleh, 51, a US citizen, was reporting on the Jenin refugee camp raid when she was shot in the face with a single bullet while wearing the press vest. It was also said that the TV correspondent was “murdered in cold blood” and attacked by Israeli forces.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett issued a statement saying that the information gathered says that the Palestinian forces, who were firing indiscriminately at the time, were responsible for the unfortunate death of the journalist who killed her more than the canal lasted two decades. However, the circumstances surrounding the killing of journalist Abu Akleh have not yet been clarified.
She was an American-Palestinian journalist who happened to come between the clashes between the Israeli military and a Palestinian gunman in the city. According to the news channel citing the reports, the Health Ministry said the journalist was shot in the head by Israeli forces during the raid.
