Tom Pelphrey is an American actor best known for his roles as Jonathan Randall and Mick Dante in the CBS television series Guiding Light and As the World Turns, respectively. He has also played some notable roles in the TV series Banshee, the Netflix original series Iron Fist, Ozark, and the Prime Video original series Outer Range.
Early life
Tom Pelphrey was born on July 28, 1982 in Howell, New Jersey, USA. He was raised in New Jersey with his parents Laurie and Richard Pelphrey. He began improving his acting skills in high school, after which he attended FPAC at Howell High.
Tom holds a BFA in Acting from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. He also received his Shakespeare Studies at the Globe Theater in London, England. Tom is also a graduate student at Howell High School, where he graduated in 2000 and later received his BA in Fine Art from Rutgers University in 2004.

Despite some notable theatrical experience, Tom landed his first job on the long-running CBS daytime drama Guiding Light, for which he has won multiple awards, most notably for portraying the character Jonathan Randall. After a few years, Tom left the show and began working independently in films and television shows.
He became co-founder and artistic director of the Apothecary Theater Company, where he produced the world premiere In God’s Hat. The New York Times called the play one of the greatest plays of all time and praised the roles of everyone involved.
Tom Pelphrey made his Broadway debut in the play End of the Rainbow, where he played Mickey Deans and was later nominated for multiple Tony Awards. He also appeared in another play called “Fool for Love” where he starred alongside Sam Rockwell and Nina Arianda.
Pelphrey has worked for Jonathan Randall’s most notable role in the most watched and celebrated CBS soap opera, Guiding Light. He became an active cast member of the show in September 2004 and received many accolades, accolades and critical acclaim for his distinctive portrayal of the anti-hero role of Jonathan.

Back in 2005, Tom was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Young Actor category and won the award in April 2006 the following year. He later received nominations for the same award for the third consecutive year in 2007, but lost the final results. Later in 2008, Tom won the second Daytime Emmy Award for the same category.
Pelphrey has received various awards and honors nominations, including the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or TV Movie, the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and many others. In April 2022, he would star in the Amazon Prime Video series Outer Range, in which he would play the role of Perry Abbott, and in another HBO Max miniseries called Love and Death, in which he would play the role of Don Crowder .
