Alex Karaban is an American college basketball player. He currently plays for the University of Connecticut’s UConn Huskies men’s basketball team. Within a short time, he became an integral part of the team.
Early life
Alex Karaban was born on November 11, 2002, in Southborough, Massachusetts. His father is Alexei Karaban while his mother is Olga Karaban. He has two siblings, a younger brother Andrew, and a younger sister Ana. First, he attended Algonquin Regional High in Northborough. He then transferred to New Hampton School, spending two years there and then one semester at IMG Academy.
His first love was swimming, following his mother’s passion. Alex even competed for the Wayside Waves. But he was inspired by his father, who played basketball competitively and made basketball his main sport.

Alex Karaban started playing basketball in high school. He was an outstanding player. His determination and skill saw him become one of the best players at his school. He was named the 2020-21 Player of the Year by Gatorade New Hampshire. His average score was 25.8 points, 2.9 assists, 8.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks. While in New Hampton, he led the basketball team under coach Andrew Gale to the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class AAA tournament. He was named Championship Game MVP.
Alex has also played under coach Todd Quarles. He has played for Expressions Elite at the AAU circuit. Because of his impressive performance, he was voted one of Consensus’ top 50 recruits. After graduating from IMG, Alex joined UConn for the second semester of 2021-22. He signed on as a redshirt and quickly became an important part of the team. Alex played several games with the team during his sophomore year.
He started the 2022-23 season as a redshirt freshman. Alex has four seasons left for the Huskies. He’s an excellent outside shooter and led his team to 16th-place wins over Arkansas and Elite Eight over Gonzaga. He plans to play pro basketball with the NBA.
