In 2019, as a junior, he stole 15 bases and hit .389 on the plate.
That summer he attended the Under Armor All-America Baseball Game at Wrigley Field. In 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic cut short his senior year, he was widely considered a top pick for the MLB draft. But a week before the draft, he pulled out of the race, saying he wanted to make good on his promise and play baseball for Louisiana State University instead.

A freshman in 2021, Crews started in right field at LSU. His season stats included a .362 batting average, 18 home runs, 42 RBIs, 16 doubles, and 12 steals in 63 starts. He broke Mike Fontenot’s record of 17 home runs as a freshman at LSU with his 18th. Dylan was named a first-team All-American by Baseball America and Perfect Game was named their National Freshman of the Year.
