Jake DeArruda is the new contestant on the show Jeopardy. He dethroned the seat from Troy Meyer, who had a six-day winning streak on the Jeopardy stage. Jake describes himself as a writer, media personality, device customer service representative, and 2021 graduate student at Stonehill College in Easton.
He has previous experience in areas such as salesman, radio, television, sports, public address announcer, and the quiz show appeared on – Jeopardy! He had his auditions for Jeopardy in the summer of 2021 and has covered everything from his school life to college life to his journey on Jeopardy (he appeared on TV in 2023).
Early life
Jake DeArruda was born in Massachusetts in 1999 or 2000, moved to Vermont, and has been back in Massachusetts since 2017. He was raised by his loving and caring parents and younger brother. He says he loves everything about being in this place – New England. The big city and the suburbs have given him enormous life experiences. He calls himself a basketball and golf player (since college), a writer by 16, and a trivia guy by 18.

Secondary school
Jake attended Black River Middle School and High School while serving the interests of the broadcast media. During high school and middle school, he has a strong interest in school media and journalism classes and BRTV productions. And while working for the media classes, he starred in dozens of episodes of BRTV productions from 2014-2015.
As he spent his senior years in high school, he was much more attracted to the seasonal football and basketball games. He would be happy to record the video and morning announcements and write or narrate things in the 2017 documentary with the whole team. He also directed the documentary Vermont Legislature’s Act 46 and its impact on our school, which received another honorable mention.
University
While in college, he was or was involved in broadcasting and joined Stonehill’s WSHL radio station. He was involved in work for the solo program Beyond the Arc every week. He was involved with the radio station from 2017 to 2019 until the outbreak of COVID-19. After the hiatus, he transitioned from college courses to various forms of writing, with a handful of creative writing courses in 2020-2021. His publications and articles were ready for Stonehill’s Making a Magazine Learning Community course and Focus magazine in 2019.
professional career
He started his professional career in 2018 and went through his studies. He joined New England Picture Framing as a part-time employee. In September 2021 he then became Delivery Dispatcher for Yale Appliance. He was responsible for managing part of the customer service, delivering trucks while dealing with the problems on the road, catching and correcting errors, picking up the process at the warehouse, and anticipating the next step.
Jeopardy journey
On January 27, 2023, Troy Meyer suffered a severe defeat on the Jeopardy stage. He was joined by challengers Jake DeArruda and Dee Williams. Jake led with Troy in second position en route to the final jeopardy. Jake raked in about $27,800 while Troy only had $15,600. In the end, all three contestants got no correct answers and Jake still came out on top with a total win of $22,797. The exciting part of the story is that Troy bet his entire win on the last jeopardy and the game failed and ended in zero.
