Kendra Scott is an American personality popular as a fashion designer. She is best known for being the chairman, designer, and CEO of her self-founded company, Kendra Scott, LLC. Today, she has expanded her work and is one of the billionaires in the industry. She was also named Ernst & Young’s National Entrepreneur of the Year.
Early life
Kendra Scott was born on March 27, 1974, and spent her childhood in Kenosha, Wisconsin. When she was 16, Kendra moved to Houston, Texas, with her family. There, she graduated from Klein High School. At such a young age that people generally have big fantasies, Kendra fell in love with a boy and followed him. Because of this, she went to Texas A&M University, where she studied for at least a year before dropping out and eventually moving to Austin, Texas. She was 19 when she moved to Austin with her ailing stepfather. Kendra Scott opened her shop, titled The Hat Box, specializing in comfortable hats and designs for women undergoing chemotherapy. Scott later sold “comfortable but stylish” pieces and donated another piece to cancer research.

Scott thought of starting her own business, but before that, she started making her jewelry from her home in Austin, Texas. She founded her business, called Kendra Scott LLC, in 2002. Kendra started raising just $500 in her bedroom after her eldest son was born. She then went from shop to shop in Austin, selling in boutiques. Eventually, she had to deal with the situation to cover the orders. She sold her samples to buy enough material. In 2005, Scott’s designs were chosen for Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2006 runway show. Her designs also appeared in another Randolph Duke fashion show in 2007. There was a time when she had to close her shop in 2007 due to the financial crisis.
But she landed an order from Nordstrom that turned out to be a huge success for her business. She got the opportunity to present and expand her business. Scott opened her first retail store on South Congress Avenue in Austin in 2010. In the same year, she started her e-commerce business. Later in 2011, Scott opened another store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. But soon she had to close it. In 2014, Scott opened her stores in the South and Midwest. In 2016, Scott sold a minority stake in her company to a $1 billion private equity firm. At that time, her business was valued at $1 billion and consisted of a few clothing lines, such as fine jewelry, home accessories, beauty products, and fashion jewelry.

Personal life
Kendra has married twice in her life. On June 24, 2000, she married John Scott for the first time at the age of 26. They became parents to two sons within five years. Her two sons are named Cade and Beck. Marriage didn’t work out for her soon after the birth of her children. They had to legally separate. Their divorce was finalized on August 22, 2006. However, Scott has not given a reason for their split. Scott remembers well the time when she had just $500 on hand and her first child was three months old when she first decided to start her business in her small area of the bedroom. Her husband had to switch jobs, so she decided to support her family financially.
