Johnson signed a contract in August 2023 to play with the Nottingham Panthers of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) in the 2023–24 campaign. In October 2023 the skate of Sheffield Steelers player Matt Petgrave sliced Johnson’s neck after an on-ice incident when he was a player for the Nottingham Panthers at Utilita Arena, resulting in his severe injuries.
