Ngozi Ezike or Dr. Ngozi Ezike is an American-Nigerian pediatrician based in Chicago, Illinois. She is currently the Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) since January 2019. In addition, she is a board-certified internist and pediatrician, coming to the IDPH from the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH).
Early life
According to some sources, it is known that Dr. Ngozi Ezike was born on October 21, 1974. Speaking about family background, it is known that her father was an emigrant from Nigeria and settled in Los Angeles, USA and it was his dream that their daughter became a doctor.

Career of Ngozi Ezike
dr Ngozi has provided inpatient care at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Cook County and was Medical Director at Austin Health Center in Chicago, and immediately before joining IDPH she was Medical Director at Cook County Juvenile Detention Centre, the largest solitary facility for juveniles in the country.
She is also an assistant professor of pediatrics at Rush Medical Centre. She completed her internship at the North General Hospital of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. In addition, Dr. Alongside all of these achievements, Ngozi identified the challenges that impact the recruitment and retention of at-risk non-traditional research participants, which was her initial work with HANDLS.
She has also been a national policy adviser on youth prison health, where she has spoken at numerous local and national conferences for medical experts and young audiences. Ngozi was also a “Federal Court Supervisor for Health-Related Matters Relating to Juvenile Detention Centers under Consent Decree”.
Recently, on March 1st, 2022, Dr. Ngozi announced that she was stepping down as director of the Illinois Department of Public Health to spend more time with her family and her last day of work would be March 14, 2022.
