Ron Klain is a well-known American attorney and political activist. He was chief of staff to Vice Presidents Al Gore and Joe Biden. He was also appointed White House Ebola Response Coordinator by Barack Obama after multiple Ebola virus cases were reported in the United States.
Early life
Ronald Alan Klain was born on August 8, 1961 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Jewish parents Stanley Klain and Sarann Warner. His father, Stanley Klain, is connected to real estate and currently works as a contractor, while his mother, Saran Warner, is a travel agent. He is an American citizen of White Caucasian ethnicity.
He received his undergraduate degree from Indianapolis and is a graduate of North Central High School, graduating in 1979. While at North Central High School, he was part of the high school’s Brain Game Group. Ronald earned his bachelor’s degree summa cum lade from Georgetown University in 1983 at the age of 22. He is also a graduate of Harvard Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor magna cum laude.

Law Clerk and Capitol Hill
Klain was court clerk for Supreme Court Justice Bryon White. He served as Chief Counsel of the US Senate Judiciary Committee, where his responsibilities included overseeing the work of legal staff on constitutional, criminal, antitrust and Supreme Court nominations. Ron even served as Legislative Director for US Rep. Ed Markey.
Clinton Administration
Klain joined the Clinton-Gore campaign and was involved in both of Bill Clinton’s presidential campaigns. At the White House, Klain served as Assistant Legal Counsel to the President, leading the judge-selection effort and leading the team that won the judicial confirmation, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He also became Chief of Staff and Advisor to Attorney General Janet Reno.
He was considered overly loyal to Clinton by some longtime Gore advisers, and feuding ensued between Clinton and Gore loyalists. Klain was ousted by Tony Coelho, chairman of the Gore campaign. He joined the Washington, DC office of the law firm of O’Meveny & Myers. Klain was chosen to be Vice President Joe Biden’s chief of staff. Klain has worked as an outside consultant for the Skoll Foundation’s Global Threats Fund and is executive vice president and general counsel at investment firm Revolution LLC.

Klain fell in love with an environmental activist and a lawyer and got married. His wife, Monica Medina, also served as Assistant Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and is currently with the Walton Family Foundation.
