Ryan Blaney is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 12 Ford Mustang for Team Penske as a full-time driver. He is the grandson of modified dirt track legend Lou Blaney, and his father Dave Blaney is a former NASCAR driver.
Early life
Born on December 31, 1993, Ryan Blaney was the middle child to parents named Lisa and Dave Blaney. He is the brother of two sisters named Emma and Erin. His sister Emma is married to Cale Conley, who is also a professional driver. Blaney is of Irish descent. He is one of the close friends of his fellow drivers and competitors named Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, and Erik Jones.
Ryan Blaney’s career
Blaney began his racing career at the age of nine quarter-midget racing. From a young age, he participated in and won the title of the auto race that was held in Bandolero. At age 12, he switched to the Legends card and won the Young Lion’s Winter Heat Point Championship. Blaney has also captured the title of three Carolina Fall Nationals divisions in Quarter Midgets. At age 14, Blaney made his racing debut racing new models at Orange County Speedway.
In 2009, as he passed his 15th year, he began competing in the PASS (Pro-All Stars Series). He has won the Rookie of the Year Award and Quarter Midget Event at the Eastern Grand Nationals in Huntsville, Alabama. He has signed a contract with Tommy Baldwin Racing and competed in the six races of the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Rise to Fame
Blaney entered the top 10 list on his debut at Richmond International Raceway and finished the race in seventh place. He captured the title in his second career national race in August 2014, held at Bristol Motor Speedway, beating Kyle Busch. Ryan also won his first track race in 2014. He has been a full-time participant in the Cup Series since 2016.
Blaney achieved his third top-10 position in the Sprint Cup while finishing 6th at the Kobalt 400 in Las Vegas. He has made his cameo appearance as the delivery boy in the film called Logan Lucky which was released in 2017. Blaney has also appeared on shows such as Season 2 of Taken, where he was cast in the role of special agent as Nathan Wood. The episode aired on TV on April 20, 2018. He also had his cameo appearance in the Netflix television series The Crew.
