It was an unusual late for the change in head coach as the season opener was three months away. Because of the scandal, Baylor University withdrew its name from postseason games for the 2003–04 season. The university placed itself on probation until 2005.

After the first season, Baylor University deducted several scholarships and started giving payments, food, and accommodation to its recruiting players/visits through 2006. During the season of 2005, the NCAA committee passed a sanction and extended the probation of the university until 2010. Besides these penalties, the university could play only a few games. Under these penalties, the university saw a record of 9-by-19 in the 2004-05 season and 4-by-13 in the Big 12 Conference-only 2005–06 season, all under the guidance of Scott. After having a few games in the NCAA Elite Eight, the team was invited by the NCAA Tournament for the season 2012-13.
