Early life
Teri Moren was born in April 1969 to parents Barbara and Dick Moren and grew up with her sister Lee Lee in Seymour, Indiana. Her upbringing was characterized by a strong emphasis on hard work and a winning mentality, which laid the foundation for her successful career and achievements.
Teri Moren’s family lived in Seymour for a long time before eventually moving to Bloomington. In 2014, Teri immigrated to the city herself, and shortly after being named the Hoosiers’ head coach in August of that year, she packed up and moved to Indiana University in Bloomington.

Donna Sullivan, an Indiana Hall of Fame coach, coached Moren while she was playing high school basketball at Seymour High School. Seymour High School has the second-largest high school gym in the country.
University
Coach Lin Dunn, now general manager of Indiana Fever, and assistant Gail Goestenkors, who later coached Duke to four Final Four appearances, coached Moren during her college basketball career at Purdue Boilermakers. In Moren’s junior year, the 1990–91 season, she made a consistent start and helped the Boilermakers finish 26-3 overall and first place in the Big Ten. This performance also marked the school’s first Big Ten championship, and she advanced to the second round of the NCAA.
Coaching at the University of Indianapolis
Moren began her career as the head coach for the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds in Division II in 2000-01. She remained with Indianapolis for seven seasons. During their third year in the 2002-03 season, the Greyhounds averaged 29-3, led the standings 18-2, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA DII. By the end of her final 2006-07 season with Indianapolis, Moren held a 130-73 (.640) aggregate and a conference record 80-58 (.580).
Coaching at Indiana State University
During her four-year coaching tenure with the Indiana State Sycamores, Moren achieved various accomplishments, including winning a 2013-14 conference championship, leading the team to two postseason appearances in the WNIT, and helping six players earn All-MVC honors. In her first year as a coach in the 2010–11 season, Moren set a record by winning the most games (16) as a first-year coach in Sycamore history.
Coaching at Indiana University Hoosiers
On August 9, 2014, Indiana Athletics Director Fred Glass announced Moren as the head coach of Indiana’s women’s basketball program. In the 2014-15 season, Moren led the Hoosiers, and they made 236 three-point field goals, which was the second-best total in school history at the time.
During Moren’s eighth year, the 2021-22 season, the Hoosiers posted an overall record of 24-9 and a Big Ten record of 11-5. All-Big Ten honors were presented to all five starters at the annual Postseason Awards, with Grace Berger being named to the All-Big Ten First Team. Throughout the season, the Hoosiers remained in the top 15, with a top spot of No. 4 in the Associated Press and No. 5 in the Coaches Poll.
