John Edward Morgan was born on July 16, 2002 to parents John and Shalita in New Orleans, Louisiana. His father sells Mercedes-Benz cars and his mother is a parole officer. In the NCAA Eugene Regional, he had six hits, including a double, three RBI, and three runs, which earned him two Freshman of the Week titles in three weeks from late April to early May.
Rise to Fame
In a streak win over Texas A&M (May 20-22), he hit .375 (6 of 16) with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. On May 10, he was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after scoring 9 of 17 (.529) with a double, a triple, a home run, three RBI, six runs, two steals, and an on-base percentage of played .556 in four games.
Morgan scored a career-high five-goal on March 27 against Tennessee. His three doubles and home run set the LSU single-game record for doubles. On March 21, he gave the Tigers a 4-2 lead over Mississippi State with a crucial two-out, two-strike RBI double in the seventh inning.
In the ninth inning, he hit a walk-off sacrifice fly that scored the winner and defeated his team Nicholls 5-4. He was in the top 11 in the league with 82 hits, 10th in doubles, and 5th in hit-by-pitch.
His two-out, two-run single early in the ninth inning at Mississippi State helped LSU to a 2-1 win and a 5-2 win. His first home run of the season came against Florida on March 27; He also had three runs in LSU’s 11-2 win, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs in that game and against Southern.
