Valerie Cagle is a redshirt junior pitcher and infielder for the Clemson Tigers softball team. Cagle led the field as a pitcher/utility for the third straight year and earned First Team All-American honors after being called up to the second team in 2021. Early life
Valerie Cagle was born on January 7, 2002, to Mark and Maria Cagle. Valerie is from Yorktown, Virginia. She is currently studying health sciences with a focus on pre-professional health studies. She enrolled at Clemson as a freshman in 2019.

She played travel ball for the Hanover Hornets, which drew the attention of college scouts. In her final season with that team, she hit .525 in 57 innings with eight homers and no runs earned.

A superb pitcher and hitter, Cagle was part of Clemson’s first season of 2020, which was cut short by COVID-19. In her first full season, she was voted not only ACC Freshman of the Year, but also Player of the Year.
She has a 1.65 ERA and 520 strikeouts in 453 innings over the course of two and a half seasons. She has played 133 games and has a .357 batting average with 39 homers and 121 RBIs. Cagle helped Clemson reach the ACC Tournament Finals for the second year in a row and earn the #10 national seed to host a regional tournament.

She was also second in the ACC and eleventh overall in strikeouts (267), second in the ACC and eleventh overall in innings pitched (216.2), and second in the ACC and second nationally in wins (28). Valerie Cagle threw her second complete no-hitter of the season in a 6-0 win over Boston College.
She had her first complete game without a shot (5 innings) in Clemson’s 9-0 win over Winthrop on April 13. After defeating then-No 14 Virginia Tech on Feb. 18, she earned her second career victory in the Circle against a ranked opponent. In 169 innings, she has hit 177 batters while allowing just 16 extra base hits. As the leader of the ACC, she has seven solo shutouts.
She leads the ACC in a total of seven different offense and defense categories and is a top 15 national in nine different categories, including a top 10 in five categories. Clemson will face the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners in the World Series playoffs.
