Beaden Barrett was born on 27th May 1991 in New Plymouth to his loving and caring parents, Robyn and Kevin Barrett. He grew up on a farm in Pungarehu, a small town in South Taranaki near Ōpunake. He shared his childhood with seven siblings, including four brothers and three sisters.

When he was eight, he spent a year in Ireland and went to St Fiach’s National School in Ballinacree. He and his brother Kane used to learn to play Gaelic football together in that school.

Beaden Barrett played for Rahotu and Coastal Rugby clubs throughout his childhood career. He was the representative of his school and used to play the rugby games for Francis Douglas Memorial College in New Plymouth, where there were all black teammates.

Barrett was noticed by the national selectors at 19 and was finally selected for the New Zealand Sevens team in the 2010 IRB Sevens World Series in England and Scotland. He played his first rugby game for Taranaki against Northland in the ITM Cup.

Beauden Barrett Career

Initial Period Of The Career

He had his debut in his first game against Northland in the ITM Cup as a replacement for another player. He was then 19 years old, and his way of playing the game extensively impressed his older players, making him earn the Most Promising Player of the Year honor.

His coaches soon recognized Beaden Barrett and his talent after he had a solid performance against Manawatu. He had at least a 65-metre solo try, which led him to earn the bonus points with a win of 10 minutes to play the game. His presence in the team of Taranaki led him to the eighth win of the season, maintaining the top fourth position.

Covid Season In 2020

Because of COVID-19, his games and the whole season were disrupted. He was committed to playing for the Blues in the 2020 Super Rugby season, but the game was suspended, and he also participated in the subsequent 2020 Super Rugby Aotearoa season. In October and November, all-black team members played six tests.

Barrett appeared in five of them, where he appeared for three matches against Australia and two against Argentina. He played as the first five-eighth in the last test against Australia, but while playing for the other four tests, he started with the position of fullback. In the matches, he did not score any tries or points, but the other two players – Richie Mo’unga and Jordie – were there to handle the goal-kicking responsibilities.

Career In 2021

In 2021, he had a sabbatical leave [a leave for one year after a continuous period of attending any work] when he was in Japan playing with Top League club Suntory Sungoliath. It prevented him from playing for the Blues in the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa or Super Rugby Trans-Tasman.

After that, he returned to play the international rugby games, and on 30th October 2021, he played his 100th match. The match was played against Wales at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, where he scored two tries.
