Casey Schmitt is an American professional baseball infielder who plays for the San Francisco Giants and made his debut as a pro with a blast. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in Round 2 of 2020 at the age of 19 as the 49th pick overall.

A graduate of San Diego State University, he was in the spotlight for his debut game and first major career hit. Casey Schmitt was born on March 1, 1999, in San Diego (the city known as “California’s Birthplace”). His parents are Daniel and Tina Schmitt who currently reside in Chula Vista, Spring Valley, where Casey spent his childhood years.

He was predestined for baseball since he was a child, having started playing baseball at the age of three. Schmitt attended Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, eventually graduating as a senior in 2017 as the 3rd best outfielder and 45th overall player in California. In 2016 and 2017, he competed with his high school in the CIF Championship game.

Despite making ten errors in three levels totaling 169 chances, he won the 2022 MiLB Gold Glove winner title. Hailing his game and effort, Giants legend Will Clark said, “…Casey is without a shadow of a doubt right now third baseman by Gold Glove…” Casey started the 2022 season averaging a career-high .273 with 14 doubles, 17 homers, and 15 RBI while standing in 93 total games for the Emeralds.

Midseason, he was promoted to Double-A Richmond on August 10 and later played 29 games for the Flying Squirrels, where he hit 10 doubles, three homers, and a record .342 with 16 RBI. At the end of the season, he was promoted to Triple-A after the Richmond season at Richmond and played for the River Cats, hitting 5 of 15 (.333) with a home run and three RBI in four games.

Casey heralded his entry into the major leagues with a great debut, hitting a home run on his debut. It was like a dream debut for any player at such a prestigious level, and he became the second Giants to hit a home run in his debut game, after the great Will Clark.
