Early life
Cathie Wood was born on November 26, 1955 and will not be 67 years old at the end of this year 2022. The highly educated investor was born in Los Angeles and became the eldest child of immigrants from Ireland. She has confirmed that her father was in the Irish Army and also served in the United States Air Force as a radar systems engineer. So it seems that she came from a well established and educated background from her paternal side.
After graduating from Notre Dame Academy Elementary School, she attended the University of Southern California, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics. She graduated in 1981. When she was in college, one of her professors was the economist Arthur Laffer, who later became her mentor and helped her achieve what she is today.

The most talented and watched speaker, Cathie began her professional life in 1977 when her mentor, Arthur Laffer, advised her to pursue a position as a business assistant with Capital Group. She extended the work in the company to at least three years. Later in 1980, Cathie moved to New York City and accepted a position as chief economist at Jennison Associates. Despite this, she also received other positions at Jennison Associates, including analyst, portfolio manager, and general manager. She worked for the company for 18 years and this was the time she dedicated the most to a company. Rise to Fame
In 1998, Cathie co-founded Tupelo Capital Management with Lulu C. Wang. The company turned out to be a hedge fund company based in New York City. In 2001, Cathie joined AllianceBernstein as Chief Investment Officer. Her work involved managing the global thematic strategies and costing around $5 million. She extended her job at the company by at least 12 years. In 2007-2008 it was criticized for underperforming the broader market and was mentioned in the 2007-2008 financial crisis.
After pitching her idea for actively managed exchange traded funds based on disruptive innovation and seeing her idea deemed too risky by AllianceBernstein, she left the company in 2014 and founded her Ark Invest. The name Ark Invest was used after the Ark of the Covenant. She developed the anime while reading a one-year Bible at the time. The first four ETFs for the company Ark Invest were funded by Bill Hwang of Archegos Capital.
