Early life
Christian Lee Encarnacion-Strand was born on December 1, 1999, in the United States. Encarnacion-Strand grew up in Pleasant Hill, California, and attended College Park High School. As a senior, he was voted Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division Most Valuable Player by hitting. It hit 40 hits and 27 runs, resulting in a score of 455.
Christian Encarnacion-Strand Career
During his college years, Encarnacion Strand played baseball for Yavapai. As a freshman, he was voted Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He hit .402 and led the conference with 22 home runs and 70 RBIs.
Strand was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 34th round of the 2019 MLB draft. However, he did not sign the contract with the club. As a sophomore, he hit .430 with 11 homers and 33 RBIs in 25 games. Unfortunately, the season ended before the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Encarnacion-Strand transferred to Oklahoma State University to complete his undergraduate studies. The Oklahoma State Cowboys named him their only Big 12 conference newcomer of the year after he hit .361 with 15 homers and 66 RBIs.
Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins selected Encarnacion-Strand in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB draft. After joining the team, he was drafted into the Low-A Southeast Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. In 2022, Encarnacion-Strand made his debut with the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Midwest League’s High-A Division. He hit 296/.370/.599 with 20 homers and 68 RBIs in 74 games with Cedar Rapids before earning promotion to the Double-A Wichita Wind Surge.
Cincinnati Reds
On August 2, 2022, the Twins traded Encarnacion-Strand, Spencer Steer, and Steve Hajjar to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Tyler Mahle. The Reds placed him with the Chattanooga Lookouts, their Double-A affiliate. In the minor leagues in 2022, he hit .304/.368/.587 in 484 at-bats and finished second in the RBIs with 114, behind Matt Mervis.
Encarnacion-Strand was sent to the Triple-A Louisville Bats to start the 2023 season, where he played in 67 games and hit .331/.405/.637 with 20 homers and 62 RBI. On July 17, 2023, he was first called up to the Major League after being included in the team’s 40-man roster.
