Elbridge Colby is a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and was also a past Department of Defense co-lead. Early life
Elbridge’s exact date and year of birth are not available, but it is believed he is currently in his mid-40s. He was born into a white Caucasian family and is Christian by religion. Colby began his career in 2010 as Principal Analyst and Senior Vice President of Global Strategic Affairs at CAN, a position he held for over three years before becoming a Robert M Gates Senior Fellow in 2014. He served at the Center for a New American Security as a senior fellow for more than three years through 2017. That same year, he was appointed Assistant Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development for the US Department of Defense and worked on the launch of the Department’s 2018 National Defense Strategy.
Elbridge Colby also served at CNAS in 2018 as the Director of Defense Program, where he led the Center’s work on defense issues, and in the same year also joined WestExec Advisors as a Senior Advisor, where he also currently works. Most recently, in 2019, he co-founded the Great Power Competition Marathon Initiative for the US and Allies in Washington DC, where he is both a co-founder and director. He is also the author of Strategy of Denial: American Defense in an Age of Great Power Conflict.
